SoundPretty tells you what a musical instrument actually costs, from a kid's first rental-desk violin to a professional's handmade one, before you ever talk to someone who profits from the sale.

The name is the promise turned inside out. Everyone wants to make it sound pretty. Our job is the part nobody makes plain first: the price. Walk into a shop or a school band night and the number you hear is shaped by whoever is quoting it. We give you the one they don't.

We don't sell instruments. We price them.

No showroom. No trade-in desk. No lesson studio. No affiliation with a brand or a chain. That is the whole point. A store has a reason to nudge you toward the model with the better margin; a teacher has a favorite; a manufacturer wants you on their instrument. We have none of those, so the number we give you is just the number.

We do earn a small commission when a reader buys through an Amazon link, and we say so on every page that carries one. It never changes a price or a recommendation. When the honest answer is "buy used" or "the $40 one online is furniture, not an instrument," that is what you'll read, commission or not. See our full disclosure.

How we get to a number

Every figure is checked against a maker's own page or a major retailer, and dated so you can see when we looked. Prices move, so each cost page shows the month it was verified and we re-check them on a schedule. The longer version is on how we price.
